iMac crashed?

After trying to install the EFI update today my imac doesn't turn on any more.
I accidentally pressed the power button while the status bar was still moving and now my mac only makes the beeping noises and the screen doesn't turn on.

I have tried installing it from the CD but it didn't work and now the CD is stuck and won't come out too. Can somebody help me please.

you prolly corrupted the firmware
i think it needs to go to apple for something like that

Apple also released updated firmware restoration CDs this morning for just such a situation.

Go to this page and download the proper image for your iMac. Once you burn it you should be able to boot the disc and repair your firmware.

Do be careful not to interrupt any firmware upgrade process.

As far as getting the other CD out of your drive try holding down the mouse button at boot.

He can't remove the CD, so he's not able to even boot from one. Sounds like Apple store time or contacting Apple for a solution. Very sorry to hear that.

Thus I suggested in my last sentence that he try holding the mouse button at boot. There are methods for alternative methods for force ejection of CD/DVDs. Failing that, I agree it's time for Apple support.

Removing the CD at this point is all but pointless, this iMac is fried. Sorry buddy.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't the firmware restoration CDs designed to resurrect Macs that had interrupted firmware upgrades?

The Firmware Restoration CD can restore the firmware of an Intel-based Macintosh computer.

Note: Restoring your firmware will reset some of your computer's preferences to defaults.

You can only use this to restore the firmware after an interrupted or unsuccessful update.

Obviously it is not guaranteed to work in every situation but how can you summarily dismiss his Mac as irreparable? Would it not be worth it to at least try to get the other CD out of his drive, pop in the restoration CD and give it a boot?

He could always ship it back to Apple if that failed.
