LaTexIt and Pages

I've been using LaTeXit to typeset equations in Pages, and it works great. There's one problem, though.

Create the equation and getting it into Pages works fine - both through the Service and Drag and Drop. When I try to go the other direction, however, it doesn't work. If I need to edit an equation I've already made (in LaTeXit), LaTeX is unable to restore it. Dragging the image back into LaTeXit causes the typeset equation to appear but the corresponding LaTeX commands do not. Choosing the "Revert equations back to LaTeX code" service leads to:
\begin{eqnarray*}\end{eqnarray*}

I'm using Pages 08 and the latest version of LaTeXit.

An additional note - if I browse the package contents of my Pages file using the Finder, locate the equation I created, and drag that into LaTeXit, it works fine - the code appears just as it should. This, however, is a bit of a pain, so I'd prefer to find a way to get it to work from Pages itself.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Hi there, I am new to all this (mac/latexit/etc..) and but I have just run into the same problem. As far as I understand from reading around, this may have to do with Linkback not being fully(?) implemented in Pages, but I really have no clue. Have you guys sorted out the problem in the meantime?

I had this problem - but I tend to use the equations over and over, perhaps modifying a character or two every now and again. So, I create them and save them in a directory. I then import them to pages or word or keynote etc. from that directory.

Alternatively, there is a very useful little tool in LateXIT under "History". If you don't ever reset this it keeps a record of all the equations you have created: I often use this to modify previous equations and then save them as I described above.

I am not sure if this topic is still of interest, but I have the same issue taking Latex PDF images in pages and getting them back into Latexit, but I have found a work around, although I don't recall who tipped me to it to give credit

1) In Pages, type your latex code, then use services to convert to pdf image,
2) then copy your pdf in pages and paste it into keynote,
3) then copy your image from keynote and paste it into latexit and voila

The exact same procedure works if you type 1st in latexit then paste into pages, then copy to keynote, etc.

Try this: Select your placed, TeXified graphic and open the Metrics inspector (the one with the ruler). At the top, you should see an icon, labeled something like "droppedImage.pdf"---drag this to LaTeXiT, and your formula should reappear.

The reason this works better is that you're dragging the original embedded file, rather than asking Pages to write image data to the clipboard for the drag (ignoring the embedded formula).

I believe this is a result of Apple changing its policy in Keynote.
Once upon a time, it worked fine; Keynote retained the LatexIt source code along with the image, and when you dragged it back into LatexIt it got restored properly. Life was wonderful.
Then Apple rewrote Keynote and deleted that facility. I've corresponded with the author of LatexIt and he says there is nothing he can do to fix this dropped feature. sad bad
