Hi guys, new user here. I bought the new Canon XSI yesterday and upon taking my first shots, I noticed that every image had a pink tone to it. No matter what setting I was shooting in (even automode), the results were the same. I have attached a sample image to this post for you guys to see what I am talking about. Any Ideas what is causing this? Possible defect or is it just me?

If it has happened since you bought it and not after you changed some settings I'd say it's a duff camera and I'd take it back from where it came.

Do the pictures look the same in liveview?

yeah... straight out of the box. I played with all the white balance settings
and same results. Sucks cause I didnt want to take it back to Bestbuy because inventory is pretty much bupkis.

you could give canon a call and see if they will replaced it for you.

Ill see what Best Buy can do for me before shipping it out to Canon.
Thanks guys for the input!

Your test shot looks like it might be under flouresent light. Do you get the same pink outdoors in sunlight? what about tunstant light?

different lighting conditions get the same result. Believe me Ive tried everything. My Iphone produced better looking pictures.. lol.

It's a bad copy of the camera.

I have to say, I'm surprised that you still want to stay with the XSi after this. I'd be looking elsewhere but that's just me and I'm weird that way I suppose.

To clarify - when you see the 2 sec preview of what you just shot, does it have this pink cast?

Also - are you shooting RAW images?

I'm guessing (because I had this same issue with the 450D) that you might be shooting RAW and reading the RAW image with an outdated RAW editor. I tried reading the RAW file with an older version of PhotoShop and with several other apps and all had this same cast. When I updated PS to the latest RAW editor or used the editor supplied by Canon on the CD, the image was fine.

Did anyone manage to sort or figure this problem out

i have exactly the same problem since the time i bought my camera.

I have been told that maybe its either a problem with teh software or the CMOS.

Does any one else have a similar problem? and also a solution?

That's a ridiculous statement, considering that we get duds from all camera manufacturers every now and then. All he has to do is to immediately exchange the camera for another.

????????? SO, if your BlackBook ever gives you any trouble are you going to look 'elsewhere' for a better computer!?

Could very well be, but the OP said that he tried different WB settings.

If the WB makes no difference then it looks like a bad one. I have a 450D and I've never seen anything like that!

Assume you're having the same problem when shooting outdoors?

Hey man, it's your white balance.

Huh... WB translates from a warm Yellow to a cold Blue and believe me... pink doesnt figure anywhere in b/w the transition!

It has to be a tint error... have you tried shooting in RAW?

A replacement is your best bet!

Just a suggestion, have you tried clearing the camera settings? You could try clearing the custom settings first, if that doesn't work try clearing all the camera settings. Hit Menu and then scroll across to the one with the spanner and three dots next to it. I assume you have the latest 1.0.9 firmware? This is under the same menu.

Do you have another lens you can try? If you look through the lens is it all pink? Is there a filter or film on the lens?
