Site Update: Folding, Photos, Tunes, and News

- MacRumors Folding @ Home Team is currently the 25th overall ranked team and remains the #1 Mac Folding team. If you want to help, see our FAQ or visit our Distributed Computing forum.

- Doctor Q has put together a MacRumors Photo Directory which matches faces with usernames of many MacRumors users.

- DailyTunes now offers 1190 individual iTunes song recommendations. New song recommendation submissions have been streamlined thanks to weefle. Only a single iTunes song link is required to make a song recommendation and all the necessarily information is pulled automatically from the iTunes Music Store.

- A reminder that MacBytes tracks other interesting Mac news stories, opinion pieces, and happenings in the Mac Community that may not make it to the MacRumors front page.

you should get that 1100 node super computer to fold for a couple of minutes for your team! Take you to first place perhaps.

We actually together are close to as powerful as the Big Mac. Our team shows 912 active processors this week. I believe dualies count as one (mine seems to). Ok, so BigMac's faster, but not more than a few times faster, than the MacRumors team.

Who Ranked this Negative?!?

Okay, who ranked this thread negative? Just curious - I mean, I think the folding ranking is great, the photo directory is an excellent idea for the MacRumors community, and Daily Tunes is an excellent resource for people.

Sorry, I just don't see any negatives to this. If someone feels different, I have no problems with that at all, it just kind of surprises me. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion though!

Some people just get a kick out of posting a negative.

If you left a thread on the main page long enough that said "Apple profits $1Bil and cures cancer" it would pick up seven or eight negatives. And when I say "long enough" I mean about three hours.

I've always wondered why there are a few people in the team who folded a bunch of units but have next to no points. Anyone know? Like, for example, Laslo_Panaflex, who has 2000+ units and hardly any points!

So, MacBytes says that the BigMac is officially #3 supercomputer. So is that true, I haven't read that on Macrumors.

You should have noticed it in these forums since they're the same forums for MacBytes, MacRumors, and DailyTunes.

Interesting. Of about 100 pics, only 7 are female. Probably a pretty good sample of the MR community as a whole.

That's what Wired says... but the really official numbers come out tomorrow (Sun). I'll post it when it comes from the source.

Curious

I'm still a bit of a newbie to the forum and all..but what is folding, and how does one get to be on the team, and what does it all do?
Explain?

How come the MacRumors SETI@home team is never advertised? It's always neglected. :\

I think it's a bug in the scoring. I went through a few units one @ a time, then suddenly I complete what should be two units & they show up as 43 (projects 912 & 913). The points are right; the work units are off.

I assume you're referring to how many posts it takes to advance to the next "classification", etc.? If so, the info you're looking for can be found in the FAQs if you look there. I can paraphrase here if you like:

~~~~~~
Newbie = 0 - 29 posts
Member => 30 posts
Regular => 100 posts
6502 => 500 posts
65816 => 1000 posts
65832 => 1500 posts
68000 => 1505 posts
68010 => 2000 posts
68020 => 2005 posts
68030 => 2500 posts
etc....
DemiGod or Contributer => Users who have contributed to the site
Macrumors God => adminstrators
~~~~~~~~

Hope this helps!
