firmware issue for panther on g3 iMac500

i am trying to install panther on my g3 iMac500... it keeps telling me that i need to update my firmware. i am running 10.8.2 and have always installed the firmware updates that software update told me about. when i go to the apple site to search for firmware updates, i find nothing recent.

any ideas? i am running panther on my other computers and want it on my iMac too!!

any firmware updates on the Panther Disks? i remember some of the older OS disks had them on there.
 
i checked all the disks... no firmware updates on them as far as i can tell... my other computers had no trouble.

any ideas?
