New iPhone Spotted in the Wild?

So Engadget is reporting that the French blog, iPhon.fr recieved two pictures of a new iPhone, its all black and its shape seems to match what the latest rumors have been saying.

Thing is, I find it rather horrendous.

Link to the engadget story: http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/n...d-in-the-wild/

Original (translated from French) iPhon.fr story: http://www.google.com/translate?u=ht...&hl=en&ie=UTF8

What do you guys think? Real or Fake?

10 times better looking, I'd actually consider buying one if it looks like that!

I agree, there is something about the current iPhone that makes it stand out, this just looks like any other phone to me.

Please no. It looks like any other phone out there only a lot worse.

Exactly! I'm calling BS on this. It looks cheap and nasty and un-Apple like. It doesn't look anything like the design that Apple has been going towards (which the iPhone kicked off) and I would be embarrassed if I was Jonathon Ive and I'd have designed that.

It looks hideous. If it looks like that, I'm going to cry for not picking up one of the 8GB current models with the £100 off promotion!!!!

So strictly looking at the shape of it, that looks nice. A little narrower, a little shorter, nice.
But the shape looks nasty as well. The MacBook Air may be tapered, but this thing looks so un-Apple like. All of Apple's products have striaght lines and round corners. This doesn't fit at all with that.

Idk, I just hope the next iPhone keeps the chrome rim. That's my favorite part of the design really. Other than the screen, of course.

Not sure if I like the asymmetrical look.

Either way, this picture is what most of the recent rumors have suggested. Could be true, or not. We shall see if the Apple attorneys get on this.

Hmm, it looks to have a bigger screen than the original iPhone (well, from that perspective) or it's actually smaller and the hands are smaller than they look too...

I'm not sure if I like it, I think I'd have to get a look at it first hand

Photo of 3G iPhone?

A French blog posted these photos purporting to be the upcoming 3G-capable iPhone. The appearance roughly matches circulating rumors of a plastic backed iPhone.

The original article claims the photos were sent in from an anonymous source and that they have no idea if they are true or not. Typically "leaked photos" are rarely legitimate.

It matches the description of the supposed 3G iPhone we heard a couple days ago, and it looks real in every way except that it's supposed to be an Apple product...

I call FAKE. It is a huge step backwards in design from the current iPhone, imo... Particularly because it is obviously so incredibly scratch-prone.

I'm thinking with all these leaked photos all being the same thing that probably means it *isn't* going to look like that.

Of course I'm hoping it doesn't look like that as, despite my love for apple products, there's no way in hell I would buy that chunk of ugly plastic (same reason I won't buy a MacBook).

As opposed to every other similar Apple product?

Personally, I want an iPhone that doesn't scream "iPhone." As a Mac user for the past 20 years, I'm sick of the posers who think they're cool because they have an iPhone.

That back cover looks like it's had lots of use, considering how old it would be...

Why can't it just be a laser etched back of another phone?
Seeing as the SGOLD3H is reported to have the same limitation of screen resolution then it'll have the same ratio of length and width of screen as current iPhone. Simple enough to check that.

130mm across
75mm at 300%
that's a ratio of 1.73 Assuming a bunch of things (e.g. resolution up to edge of display).
iPhone is currently 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 ppi with a ratio of 1.5

Not out enough given my margins of error.

1.73 is close to 1.78, which is 16x9. That would be great if we get a true widescreen ratio on the next iPhone.

Well that would just be awesome! If you look, the top earpiece area and home button area are thinner, meaning the screen is wider given the same phone size. And your 1.73 is pretty close to 16:9 screen proportions which are 1.778. The old 1.5 aspect was a total butt - f... of a screw up. Doesn't match any video resolution whatsoever.

So I don't know what people dont' like about it. Screen, bigger and 16:9. Phone stays same size. Adds 3G. Non scratch easy silver back. Less chrome.

Well, the pictures are not of the best quality...
I don't see the legendary front camera either, so either the pics are genuine and the next iPhone won't have Video iChat, or they are fake and we still have to wait and see...
I'm really not enthusiastic about the black back, it looks cheap and not very 'Apple' like...
I don't buy it. But I WILL buy the next gen iPhone!

Looks pretty cool to me, just a little on the small side IMO, though. I like the current size of the iPhone. It fits well in my hand. Plus, videos will be easier to watch on a bigger screen. I wonder if Apple will up the DPI of the screen?

Amateur mock-up, at best. No chrome volume buttons, Apple logo and name are more pixelated than phone itself - looks like a paste job, rainbow highlights reveal a plastic front instead of glass - J Ive would not allow the iPhone design to be so cheap looking.

Apple plans to completely eliminate the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in its products, and arsenic in the glass of flat-panel displays by the end of 2008.
No big deal all manufacturers HAVE to do this as there are new ROHS guidelines for Europe which restrict what materials you can use. They aren't being proactive here, its a compliance thing.

This reminds me of the 100001 comments from people who laughed at the idea of the "MacBook Air" and said NOPEZ< FAKEZ < NEVERZ GONZA HAPPENZ.

Well it did. This might too.
