10.4.3 upgrade Stuck on Darwin/DSB screen

My Power Mac G4 (mirrored doors) has not worked since upgrading from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 -
upon restart from the upgrade a black screen w/ white text appeared and then goes to a blank blue screen...

the black screen has white text that says "darwin/dsb" and prompts me to a login name/password.

has anyone had experiences like this? is there a solution?..

any help is greatly appreciated...
