Hair/fluff under glass panel on iMac

Hi all,

I've just bought myself a 3.06GHz iMac. Just set it up and noticed a 1cm long piece of hair/fluff underneath the glass panel! Tiny specks I can deal with but not this monster!

I thought I'd probably not be able to see it but it shows up so so clearly on black backgrounds. To say that I'm brassed off is an understatement! It's 130 miles back to the Apple store too.

I know the screen can be popped off with a suction lifter but I thought these units were made in fluff free environments!!! I'm thinking of taking it back, to get a full refund and maybe just order from the online store.

That sucks man.
I would call Apple first tho. THey might help you without the 130mile drive.

I called the Apple Store up today and spoke to a guy who was very friendly and apologised for the problem. Unfortunately though, it seems I have to make another 130 mile journey there, and 130 mile journey back. I'm MEGA peeved off!

That definitely suck to hear, sorry about that. But at least you've purchased an amazing machine.

I remember when I had my Alum 24" iMac, I had a piece of my dogs white hair stuck underneath the glass somehow. It was crazy annoying.

What about 1-800-APL-CARE ?? Won't they send out a tech to your home to pop off the screen and fix it like they would any other in-warranty repair?

They didn't mention anything about sending someone out. That would have been great. Unfortunately, I've just got back from my long drive 3 hours ago. I took the machine back and got a refund. And spent £100 in diesel for the privilege of NOT having a brand new machine!!!

Get a suction cup, any kind, any size.

Put it on the middle of the glass near the top. PULL. OUT comes the glass { held in by magnets } pop! Clean inside of glass and screen, remove crud, pop the glass back in.

Takes about 5 seconds, NO difficulties whatsoever.

Here are some photos showing how easy it is to do. Please excuse the bad pictures used a cheap camera laying around and didn't try real hard for quality, BUT you can see just how simple it is.

Yeah, I've seen this done. There are youtube videos of it too... I've taken it back now but i had heard that if i got clumsy and damaged something, i would invalidate the warranty.

Besides, I shouldn't have to remove (presumably) Chinese hairs from behind the glass panel on my brand new iMac!
