emac making duplicates?

so i bought this external 250gb harddrive so i can put stuff like music and such (ALOT OF STUFF) and i have itunes to play it off the ehd and the downloading to download to the ehd but im losing space on my internal harddrive and i cant find the files or to see if the music is on cause it always says its on the ehd which sopposed to be can someone tell me whats going on and i dont have time machine on.. anyone have any sugestions
