New Kansas City Apple Store, Leawood (Kansas City, MO)

It looks as though they're building another Apple store in Kansas City market, in addition to the one in the Plaza shopping district in Kansas City, Mo.

The new Apple store will be in Leawood, a suburb in Johnson County, on the Kansas side, at 119th & Roe (near the new Crate & Barrel).

BTW, this is more than "just a rumor" because they're advertising for help already.

My question is, does anyone know when they plan to open?

And the amazing thing is that it's actually in Kansas...yea for us! We're no longer in the blacked-out-for-Apple-Store region.

Now if they could just bring one to Wichita and one to Joplin, Missouri (for people like me who live in the Four State region [Joplin is the hub-population 83,000 at night, but 250,000 during the day; it could easily support a smaller or in-mall Store]).

This is located in the new shopping center being built in the Crate & Barrel area on the south east corner of 119th & Roe. The development is supposed to have the Grand Opening Aug 8-10th weekend.

The store is now visible now that the black wall is down. I did not have my camera with me today to get a pic. Maybe in the morning on my way past :P

I heard about this a while back. Its nice, but I'd like to see one closer to Shawnee. But I don't think that will ever happen. I can't believe the KC Metro can support 2 stores.... in addtion to all the Bestbuys around here selling Mac's.

Go to the above link to see all the photos I took this evening (July 1, 2008).

I spoke with with one of the contractors and he was told that this was a serious rush job and that it may just open as soon as tomorrow or at least by Friday July 4th. The entire store is completely finished and just missing the merchandise on the fimiliar wood tables. All the lights are on and the three big LCD screens behind the genius bar are up and running videos already.

Drove by the store this morning on my way to work and did not see any movement other than contractors/cleaning crews. One store in this new shopping center is open before the Aug Grand Opening dates, so maybe the rush is so it will be open for July 11th.

It's been 8 months since it was announced an Apple store was coming to my area, and there's no sight of any construction whatsoever.

It was to open sooner but was pushed back to be the same as the iPhone 3G release.

in an official email I received this:

"Finally, we are currently planning on opening at 8AM on Friday
July 11th for the Grand Opening and iPhone launch."

It was going to be an evening open but was changed.

If it was to be sooner, I would say from experience due to construction delays as they just started last week moving construction equipment/materials, planting, etc and there is still lots to do for the whole shopping center.

Glad it will be ready for July 11th so I do not have to go to the AT&T store at 8am. two blocks from my house is much nicer at 8am

If the grand opening is july 11th ill be there. It's gonna be like a secret little nugget of iphones. If anyone lives out there keep updating. And could the guy who got the email post it?

I stopped by there again last night and there were two guys cleaning the place. I asked them when the store is planning on opening and they confirmed July 11. They didn't know what time though. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This is all making me anxious, I wanna get the 3g on the 11th but if i wait outside the store and it doesn't open i will panic. Hopefully a sign will be posted or something to confirm the opening.

It's to the southeast of the actual town center shopping center in a seperate and brand new strip mall. Crate and barrel sits right on the road and can be seen pretty easily, it's across the street from the mcdonalds there.

On a side note I drove by there today and the windows have been covered completely with brown paper. I was gonna go up to see if i could see through a crack but there was a security guard patrolling around.

They must be moving merchandise in. I'm surprised they haven't posted anything on the door's as to when they are opening. On a side note, Scott Bourne said on MacBreak Weekly that the Apple stores will be opening at 8am to coincide with the AT&T stores.

The Crate & Barrel is on the SE corner of 119th & Roe - catercorner from Dean & DeLuca. The Apple store is in a strip mall behind the Crate & Barrel.

The development on that southeast corner - called One-Nineteen or 119 - is new, and I think the only thing open so far is the C&B. You can read about the other businesses scheduled to open at 119 here

Nope. AT&T isn't available where we live, so no iPhones for us. But on the 11th, we'll be getting online to update our iPod Touch software and see what cool new apps are out there.

Since the store will be a madhouse that first weekend, we will probably wait a few days to visit and try to go on a weekday.

cool, thats good news, i just called a guy at the plaza store and he said that he isn't officially supposed to say anything different than what apple's website says (july 2) but he said he is pretty sure it will open on the 11th.

I plan on getting one on the 11th. Seems like quite a few people are going to be at the plaza Apple store from the Release Gathering thread.

I spoke to a Apple account rep who said the store would be open July 11th for 3G release for sure and possibly a few days early to train new employees.

Since this is a older street view, you will see nothing behind Crate & Barrel where the shopping center is with the Appel Store in the pictures from everyone.

The parking lot has been cleaned up and two other stores are looking like merchandise is flowing in. Crate & Barrel has been there since before last thanksgiving and Dean & Deluca will be moving to this new side of the street in Feb of next year from their current location on the North West corner of 119th & Roe.

yea when i drove by the other day i saw some weird store that was open already it had furniture and **** in it i think, so its a very definate possibility that more (including the apple store) will be opening very soon. In order to kinda beat the crowd I'm thinking of hitting this place up on the 11th and if they don't open ill just try to get one later at the plaza.
