Creating .dsk files

I'm trying to access some really old floppy disks (we're talking 1984!) on my powerbook. I'm using vmac to run old system 7 and got a USB floppy drive. But the disks won't recognize. (My old powerbook recognizes them fine but is practically useless). Anyone know a floppy utility that might help me at least capture or recognize the info onto my hard drive?
