iPod touch Transfer iPod touch software update to new PC

Hi there I am needing to transfer my iPod touch from one PC to another as I have just bought a new PC.

I am wondering how to move the iPod touch Software Update from my Windows XP computer to my Windows Vista computer. I know where it is located on my WinXP computer all I need to do is whether to move it or not.

Would it be just as simple to put it onto my external hard drive and putting it onto the new computer?
