Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.5.3 9D34 to Developers

For the past two months, Apple developers have been testing the next version of Mac OS X Leopard. The latest Mac OS X 10.5.3 test version (build 9D34) was seeded just last week and only adds one kernel performance fix and contains no remaining "known" issues. Meanwhile, Apple's seed note list of the over 200 bug fixes since Mac OS X 10.5.2 has been posted by apcmag.

Once complete, the final Mac OS X 10.5.3 update will become available as a free update to existing Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) users via Software Update. No target date is set, but testing has been ongoing for two months and Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is just around the corner (June 9th).

Agh... I thought I was going to be the first to comment. Hah hah.. well anyway, yeah. What you said.

To beat many others to the punch: I hope 10.5.3 finally fixes the airport problem with Leopard. I've never actually had a problem with Leopard's wireless, but I know this sentament will be posted by many, many others.

Could be later today, often these things are released on Tuesday.

Personally, Leopard has never really felt "finished" to me. I don't know what specific things are triggering this feeling. Maybe it the glass dock which looks like a draft drawing to me, not a final version. Or the "view options" window in Finder which doesn't seem properly thought out.

I don't know - it just feels like a work in progress a lot more than previous versions have. No proud person went over it with the polishing rag.

We discussed this already, when we were waiting for 10.5.2. There is absolutely no historical evidence for such behavior. The likelihood for a release is the same on any workday.

I certainly hope so. Not only does it not make a lot of sense to release something like this when most of your development crew will be otherwise occupied(helping developers at WWDC), many 3rd party devs will be in SF and not around to support the release should any issues arise.

I hope they release it sooner because we are having some major issues connecting a Leopard client to our Tiger Open Directory server and AD/OD issues seem to be at the top of the list of areas they focused on fixing.

Unfortunately, this is a problem on Microsoft's end, and it won't be going away anytime soon. Microsoft has said that, to fix the problem of windows not going into their proper spaces, they would have to re-write a lot of their UI code. That's what they get for using a ton of non-standard programming conventions (e.g. the tabs in notebook view, the way their pages and text are rendered and displayed, etc.).

Hope this fixes the sleep issue in 10.5.2

I can't wait for 10.5.3 to come out! Ever since updating to 10.5.2, my MacBook Pro won't sleep anymore. I've been working with a top engineer at Apple who said that Apple has isolated my problem and that the sleep issue is fixed in 10.5.3. My MBP has been overheating waiting for this update to be released -- please release it soon, Apple!

Thankfully it's not all bad. Their using their own graphics engine for the suite means the antialiasing looks much better than in Pages, for instance, which still doesn't take advantage of the sub-pixel rendering that makes OS X's text so pretty.

Other than that ... looking forward to 10.5.3 as much as I have been since I got this machine. Two weeks between these last two seeds, and only two builds higher ... I'm really hoping for an imminent release. Good luck to me!

10.5.2 was a big step in the right direction. I think with 10.5.3 we could reach the stability of Tiger.
My favourite 10.5.3 bug:
After 20 seconds, when I closed the lid of my MBP, it wakes up magically and then goes back to sleep...

Will Finder prefs finally treat Boot Camp partitions as a hard drive and not as an optical drive or iPod?

I'm sure this has been discussed many many times, but I had the same problem, but some fiddling with the settings solved the problem for me. If I remember correctly it was setting the wide channels to narrow that fixed my problem..

Still hope they fix it though..

In addition, I don't see any reason for Apple to wait until the WWDC. I hope it gets released earlier.

I have that too. Very annoying.

I filed a bug on it and hope they fix it. I gave them as much information I could gather but didn't hear from them since. Seems to be related to the energy saving preferences.

Meh... and I'm sure this will break [insert app here], that will make [insert dev here] blame Apple. The [insert issue here] will be fixed though, when [insert dev here] releases a patch in [insert number] weeks to fix the break.

I hope they fix the bug in file vault which accounts for the inability to permanently store preferences for instance in Safari, FF and default apps.
This has bugged the hell out of me lately.

The sleep, wake, sleep issue is just part of the pain of sleep. I think they should give us a GUI to show properly that we can disable the slow, slow sleep - I don't want to have to wait 30 seconds just to make sure it is asleep, the whole point for laptops is you can shut the machine, pick it up, pack it and take it away.

It would also be nice if they fixed the fact that custom keyboard shortcuts through System Preferences mysteriously vanish after a few days, but that has existed ever since they introduced custom shortcuts - Panther?

Also they could make the iTunes dashboard widget work properly for the first time ever ... but I'm sure I'll be reporting that one for the 16th time come 10.5.3 .

Especially good news for me because I'll be able to test an operating system upgrade without having to worry about my user data this time. As soon as I finish partitioning my system drive and moving my data over from my backup drive, my home folder will work off a different partition. ^_^

Just disable VileFault.

It is slowing down your system, eating up drive space like no tomorrow, and if someone actually were to steal your computer, it is entirely possible for them to easily steal your data with a can of air and some patience.
