$200 Low End iPhone?

Kevin Rose posted a video comment indicating that he had heard that there may be a low end $200 iPhone introduced alongside the 3G-capable iPhone that has been long rumored.

Kevin Rose was co-host of The Screen Savers on Tech TV and later started Digg.com. Other predictions of the new iPhone by Rose include 3G and front-sided camera.

Isn't this the same Kevin Rose who said before the iPhone came out that it would have 2 separate batteries and a slide-out keyboard?

It didn't turn out to be true, did it?

If the 3G iPhone does not have a slightly cheaper monthly contract than the current one, this rumoured 'low-end iPhone' is the one I will go for.

Um... the MacBook is Apple's 'low-end notebook', just like the Mac mini is Apple's 'low-end desktop', and the iPod shuffle is Apple's 'low-end music player'.

Would be nice if they offered a 4gb iPhone, tad smaller and thinner, no 3G. £99 with contract, sweet.

It would complete the rumors/idea stating that the iPhone line is splitting into two or more models.

I'd rather eBay an 8GB.

I hope they don't do that like motorola did with their slvr l7 (which i have) and subsequent l6 and l2 models (the lattermost of which had no camera. That would definitely lower customers' perception of high-end products for apple. although, they did do this to their ipod line with the shuffle.

i haven't been following apple closely before summer of last year but i now that apple released so many products lie the iphone, time capsule, macbook air, ipod touch recently, i can't imagine how their site would have looked a few months ago. was it very sparse?

also @joeshell:
many companies could 'add more' to their bottom line like rolex, bmw, prada, but then their wouldn't be a feeling of exclusivity for those who want it. even jobs said something like they don't want to make the most money or be the biggest company, they just want to make the best computers.

According to Rose, little bit of inside info on the Apple phone:

- Going to be coming out in January
- All phone providers
- "It's small as sh*t"
- Don't know anything about the Operating System
- The OS is supposed to be "cool"
- Doing some unique things
- Two batteries, one charger. One for MP3 portion and one for Phone.
- 4GB ($249) and 8GB ($449)
- Flash memory, Slide out keyboard
- Maybe touch screen?

Or iPod Touch Pro, and iPhone?

hey I know that just like a lot of other people, Kevin's track record on various Apple rumors isn't very good. That shouldn't mean though that everyone should dogpile on them with ridicule. The more people do that, the less that ANYONE will ever want to share ANY rumor, for fear that they will be trashed on if it turns out not to be true. Everyone should just relax and take everything with a grain of salt, and encourage everyone to come forward if they hear something from any decent source.

A cheap, stripped-down version would be a huge sell, imo. When I say huge sell, I don't think it will set any records but it would become a big hit for many looking to become a part of the iPhone cult at a price they can afford
I don't know about you, but I think I prefer the current system, in which poor people go without iPhones.

For pride and exclusivity? Give me a break.

From an investor's perspective, if offering a $200 model along side the high priced ones will ultimately add more to the bottom line--- than it is a good thing.

Look at some of the countries the iPhone is going to be offered in--- they will definitely need to offer a lower priced model if Apple is going to go mainstream with it.

Remember, the iPod didn't really take off until the lower priced Mini debuted.

And besides the fact that there were multiple prototype devices floating around Apple HQ to catch leakers and keep the real deal locked up...

Would you idiots stop making fun of people who are poorer? "LOLZ UR POOR U DON'T DESURV AN iPHAONE!!1"

Well how about me- my mom has kidney disease and cancer, she can't work and my dad died when I was young, we have no source of income because she can't work and I'm too young to be hired.

So- I don't deserve an iPhone?

You prefer the system where people like us can't get one because we're 'poor?'

Does it make the iPhone less cool because somebody who's not a rich ******* owns one?

You people sicken me.
