3rd Party iPhone Apps to Launch Monday?

CNet reports that Apple is poised to launch the first of the 3rd party iPhone applications at WWDC on Monday.
Quote:
A source at a software company that has been working on a native iPhone application tells us the company is getting ready to launch that application on Monday, which could also imply that Apple's App Store will be up and running that day.
A Monday launch of the iTunes App Store would also imply an immediate release of the iPhone 2.0 Firmware which would be much earlier than expected. When Apple announced the iPhone SDK beta and 2.0 firmware, they said the final release would be available "by the end of June."

Perhaps Apple is eager to be ahead of the game, instead of behind the curve as they've been on a few recent (software) releases...?

Looks like waiting until WWDC to purchase my iMac 3.06 + iPod Touch will pay off! I'm glad I resisted the temptation to order today!

I can't see Apple releasing the 2.0 software on monday, but it would surprise the hell out of me if I'm wrong and I would be very glad.

The article also says that the 3g will be available monday and have GPS. That and the app store would make me so happy on Monday, I just hope the price tag is around $400 (or less)

That would be cool, but will our purchases transfer to the new phones? Has this even been discussed?

It's even better. Steve Jobs is coming and he's got new software and toys for us to lust after and go into debt for.

Not likely. We'll see a 1.x update including AppStore, and then in a month get the full 2.0.

I hope we'll see the full 2.0, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

But wouldn't it make more sense to get the FINAL SDK and firmware out so apps can be tested on it before they go on sale? Or maybe certain special 'partners' apps are already being made/tested using the final versions.

Probably not if you buy an ipod touch after the announcement. (Assuming the ones in store after the announcement have 2.0 loaded)

I think that's what the person you quoted was getting at.

There was a story I read somewhere about the latest firmware beta that was out. The comments went along the lines of it had seen vast optimisation which I suppose hints at it maybe being finished.

We will have to wait and see. I am still a bit skeptical but you never know!!

I wonder if there will be a delay between the 2.0 software launch and having it built into the iPhone/iPod Touch.

That doesn't make sense, unless Apple focused their resources on a 1.x update that has the same frameworks as the iPhone SDK so that the applications would actually work.

And you know what that update would be called? iPhone OS 2.0.

AppStore = 2.0, though 2.0 doesn't necessarily = AppStore.
