Homemade gift ideas for girlfriend
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with some cool ideas of stuff to make for my girlfriend (who is in another state right now-- college students). I've tried googling, and not many good ideas have been returned. So...I've decided to ask all you creative Mac users! I've also bought a plain white t-shirt to try and decorate, but I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. I am not crafty at all. It's the thought that counts, right? ![]() Thank you all so much! |

Make her a baby - that way you both get to join in.

I made a picture for my girlfriend last year. Just got a graphics tablet and jumped into the deep end with a collection of video game characters she likes. Went down a treat!

Don't waste your time. You will probably split up in a year or so.
Take videos of her and make a short movie showing how lovely she is to some great music. On the beach, walks in the park etc. Try and catch her smiling and happy. You could also do this with some photos or a mixture of both. Pick a song that you know she loves and make it as romantic as possible. Cook her dinner one night then after sit down and show her the DVD. Give it to her wrapped nicely after pudding with a single red rose. |

Make her a home-made coupon book. I know this sounds silly, but it's a sweet idea. And if you fill it with stuff like a foot rub, offer to paint her toenails, pay for a hairdo, dinner somewhere, "Pizza and a movie" night (where she gets to pick what kind of pizza, what movie, blah blah), stuff like that. One could be an "Italian Dinner" at your apartment - get the candle, the red-and-white checkered tablecloth, pasta, red wine, Pavarotti or Bocelli in the background. Of sing it yourself to make her laugh. Just make sure you do the cooking.
The bonus is, if you fill it with sweet, time-sensitive stuff (like "Not good before" or "Cannot use two at a time") then she'll want to be with you more often to use some of the coupons you've included. I mean, at least, don't then go and spoil it by being a heel - but you get the idea... Or another idea, if you're any good at video manipulation and have some vids of the two of you together: Make your own "Cloverfield" of just the two of you. See if you can duplicate the look and feel of the movie where you had your first date (Good thing it's not Saw IV... ).Don't be afraid to be sentimental or to show your romantic side. She'll give you a A+ for effort (and appreciate it that much more) even if she can tell you put thought into it, even it's not perfect.

Create an emergency survival kit that she can keep in her car for those trips back and forth to college. This can be done for under $25, (not including the cost of the bag) and will be something that she will keep for years.
Get a used bag, like a diaper bag. Often thrift stores will have some black bags that are vinyl-lined and have several pockets and compartments. Next visit the dollar store and pick up: a flashlight and batteries, small am/fm radio, first aid kit, moist wipes, duct tape, electrical tape, multi-function knife, bandana or facial dust masks, hard candy, jerky, other non-cooking food and bottled water. Last year I gave several of these emergency road kits to family and friends. Everyone was thrilled with the bags and their contents. |

Photo albums don't need to be full of photos. It could be inside jokes, other random pictures she'll like. Don't fill it with just pictures of you, because that would be creepy.
If you don't have enough stuff to put in a photo album then just use a single frame. But once again don't just put a single picture of you in there, put a few. The coupon book idea is lame. You mine as well write here name in wingdings and send it to her. 99% of the crap you put in there, you should be doing already. Most of doing something nice for your lady is knowing what she likes.

Regardless of what you choose, you better make her a macaroni picture frame. Nothing says I love you like one of those. At least that's how it was in kindergarten...

Also it'd be interesting to see if they are still together.

You can surprise your boyfriend/girlfriend with a romantic love letter. You can either write it yourself or simply use one of the many love letters available online. Take the time and build something yourself that they will be able to use. While everyone thinks of a spice rack for this type of gift, there are other ideas you can try. Build a birdhouse or a picture frame. They are both easy projects and make nice gifts.
