add actors and director without metax

Hey, anyone know if there's a way to add meta data to a movie without using metax. I want to do this for some files that are incompatible with metax. The fields I want to add are actors, director and description. I've found a "doug script" for adding the description but have had no luck in finding a script to do the latter two.
