This might have a very simple solution, but it's bugging me to death. I have my HDDs lined up on the right hand side to look a certain way (see attached). However, if I mount them and there are other items on the desktop they end up in random places. I'd like a setting so that as soon as they mount they push out all other icons to assume the set-up that I have for them immediately.

Does that make sense?

Did you check to see how your sorting is under "show view options"

Is it by name/kind/etc?

I have several different types of files and folders on my desktop atm, and my usb drive named "STORAGE" is sorted above files like "After.jpg" and "3623423423423_03.jpg" (image file saved from web), and right below my iMacHD icon.

If I connect another drive it shows up in line and above all other 'misc' files and the drives are grouped together.

I think that's the problem. I can group them by "kind", but then I can't also have it "snap to grid". Also, it doesn't appear that they line up in the order I like them to be in. It's a really picky thing, but I just wish I could make it happen.

Oh, well, thanks for the reply!
