iPhone Apps Announced: Super Monkey Ball, Loopt, Pangea games

During today's Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple showed off some of the applications that have been developed using the iPhone Software Development Kit. We've highlighted some apps of interest here.

Sega Super Monkey Ball
Initially previewed at the SDK launch, Super Monkey Ball now includes over 100 levels. In playing through the last world, Sega demonstrated how they used the iPhone's accelerometer to control the movement of the character.

Loopt
Loopt is described as location-aware social networking. The app displays a map with pins representing where your friends are. User profiles can show a log of where you've gone and its simple to blog, send in a photo, text, or call your friends.

I can't wait to try these games out!!! I'm a great fan of all of Pangea's game, and played them all since Power Pete. They have so many creative ideas... never since Mario Kart 64 did I play a racing game that was as purely fun as Cro-Mag Rally.

He said: "We're going to talk about iPhone this morning". Bertrand will talk about OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard "after lunch".

I was hoping for a new MacBook Pro but I'm losing that hope now...

There's always the "One More Thing..."

But I doubt a new laptop or desktop Mac.

That was pointless, all those people expecting something to do with a computer.

The only worth while thing to come from that two hours is we got confirmation about "Snow Leopard".

THe price cut is also welcome though.

The Inquirer refers to Apple as the fruity toy maker. Maybe Apple will flog the hardware biz to somebody who is interested in producing a full line of computers for the worlds greatest operating system. Computers that get upgraded with the latest hardware advancements as soon as they are available at competitive industry prices. Is that really asking too much ?

I'm wondering the same thing. Do we have to wait until July like we do for the 2.0 upgrade?

The Inquirer is a joke anyway, basically a tech tabloid, though maybe not as bad as Valleywag.

If you're asking for budget machines, competitive industry prices is basically asking Apple to start losing money instead of making money.

Getting the latest chips is not easy when you're talking about Apple's volumes. It's easy to find competitors that each have a model or two with the latest chip, but those models don't need to sell in big volume. It takes Intel a bit to ramp up their production volume.

What I'm wondering about is how many apps will be available when the App Store opens, and how many more will be added in the next year. That will tell us whether iPhone X truly has the potential to become the "third great operating system", as some have called it.

I'd especially be interested in seeing whether medical apps like Epocrates will be ported to the iPhone.

They demoed Epocrates at the SDK event. It is already confirmed coming to the iPhone.

Does anybody know if games/apps will be tied to a specific iPhone (with a specific serial number)? That will not be acceptable if the phone needs to be exchanged or if we upgrade to a newer phone with more disk space. Also, will we be able to load the app onto only one iPhone - in case there is more than one iPhone in a household and more than one person syncs with iTunes. I'm assuming that nobody has that info yet, but it would be helpful if the editors would try to find out this info.

Good questions, I was wondering if I would have to pay multiple times to get the game onto my and my wifes iPhone. I could see it going either way.

I really liked the iPhone MLB live app. However, the article on MLB.com says it will only work with the new 3G iPhone? WTF? Did they get it wrong, or will I be able to use it on my current iPhone?

Woohoo!

I seriously don't know why this isn't the most exciting aspect of WWDC for EVERYONE. Super Monkey Ball! And the fact that application development is going to be THE future. A video daily double to support some of my points (from the friendly Scroll Motion folks):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irXCMdRprfw

SO the phone doesn't have cut and paste - lets make it an app! Would be nice to have video tho...
