Allow me to explain.
I purchased a 2g iPhone from CPW and immediately unlocked it and put my orange sim card in it. The O2 sim card has never even seen light of day. However, now that the new one is out, I'm starting to think about switching from Orange to O2 because of the unlimited data (Orange is KILLING me with data charges.) SO basically, Apple have hooked me in, manipulated me, and have now put me in a position where I am almost certainly going to sign up. Had I not been able to unlock the original iPhone, I wouldn't have got one.
As far as I see it, Apple know exactly what goes on, and no doubt read this very forum, and everything that has happened so far has been a genius marketing idea.
