after update, cursor won't highlight.

what's going on? my cursor won't highlight anything. for instance, i have to click to get the dock to appear, anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it? thanks in advance.
 
not a wireless mouse.

any other guesses? thanks though, for a second i though i was saved.
 
I registered just to say thanks!! This was driving me nuts. I found this post by goggling and your fix worked great.
 
Oh yeah, I wanted to say, I just restarted my computer and it works well enough now.

So, bottom line: restarting works wonder sometimes.
