Question regarding installing Windows via MBP

Im getting my MBP Tuesday, but its only 200GB and I dont want to use up that space for Windows (which I need for college, taking online).

My question is, if I go out and buy a external laptop hard drive, would I be able to use that for Windows? (meaning Windows wont be on my mac whatsoever, 100% on the external, so I might be able to boot from that external at startup)
