So I rebuilt my iBook from pieces (literally). It works amazingly... except the optical drive. So I bought a combo drive off a guy here on MR.

According to iFixIt, I have to take apart almost the whole damn thing to install the optical drive. To that I say "uggggh". I REALLY do not want to go through that again.

So I'm thinking I'll just take it to a shop and pay them to do it for me.

But I'm wondering, where? And how much will they charge me? Will an Apple Store do it?

If you were willing to drive to Nashua NH, I'd do it. I'm bored out of my skull, so I'd even do it for free.

I'm only half as scary as people make me out to be when it comes to voiding warranties. I'm even certified to work on Aerospace and Space-based electronics. :p

From superficial Googling, it seems they charge like, $100 a hour.

Forget it, guess I'll just do it myself. :(

Like Big-TDI-Guy said, I'd do it. There's even a Mac shop I've seen who let people they know pull up to a bench and DIY if you want. I bet Apple Corp doesn't need to hear that.
