iPod bose dock broke my ipod?

My 30G ipod video did something very strange and disturbing this morning when I put it on my bose sounddock -- it made a hissing sound like air being let slowly out of a balloon and now it won't turn on. Any ideas?

Thanks for responses! I did plug it into my computer and was going to try to restore from itunes, but no luck there -- hardware wasn't recognized . I have a feeling it may have fallen from a high bookshelf. Any other ideas or am I doomed?
