After seeing the other Orange iBook thread, I decided to try out some color on my MacBook too!

I started disassembling my MacBook last night, and got it down to the plastic case. Im going to go out in a minute and buy some Orange and Yellow dye.

The only thing I need left to do is to get the back of the battery off (need a tiny little torx)

Here are pictures on the project (I will take more as I go along)

My MacBook, completely disassembled. (click for full)

The plastic case parts, ready to prep. (click for full)

Questions, Comments and Suggestions are appreciated!

Well, that's gonna be hard to put back together but... some things to watch out for...

Don't paint the iSight or the MacBook logo....

BTW: Like the iPhone in there :)

I agree, I'm sure it makes sense to you but it looks like there is no order to your disassembled parts whatsoever. All those randomly placed little screws...

Heh, I got it guys. When I'm not at home I'm a repair technician. The easy part is getting the screws in, the hard is when it doesn't turn on and you don't know why!

Also, the screws in that picture are just metal frame and case screws, I already put the internal and external screws away...

I'm worried about this but I can't wait to see pics. It's like watching a car wreck.

I can't wait for final results, but those pics are kinda painful to look at.

I've got all but two screws out of the battery using whatever I can; they didn't have a T4 at the store. I also got 2 packs of Golden Yellow RIT dye. Will post an update after I get these last 2 screws out...

I finally got the battery plastic off! After getting all the screws out without a screwdriver, then realizing I didn't need to take the screws out, I finally got it apart. It made some nasty cracking noises as the glue separated...

Anyway, I'm ready to soak the parts in alcohol to clean / remove paint.

Battery and removed cover.

The glue that holds the battery back on. It's surprisingly simple now that I've figured it out.

oh.. so you first need to get the white paint off before spraying it another color.?

Ummmm... Don't you think the parts are moulded in white plastic altogether?
On the other hand, soaking the stuff in alcohol would ensure that everything
is absolutely clean from dirt and fingerprints.

I used 4 packs of RIT dye when I did mine. Do you think you will get the results that you want with only 2 packs? I also just washed my plastic pieces in hot soapy water before dying. Be prepared to leave your stove burning on high for 6 hours straight :p. My gas bill was higher then normal that month ;) LOL
