Guitar Center - an Apple Reseller

As followup to a previous rumor... Guitar Center has indeed become an Apple Authorized Reseller, and has started offering Apple products in their stores.

According to Prosound News (print edition):

This should've happened a long long time ago. Mac's are a key part of any legitimate or not-so-legitimate studio. Tapes are dead.

It'll be nice to actually buy ALL of my recording equipment at a Guitar Center. As opposed to some at a Guitar Center and some at a computer store. Moreover, Guitar Center employees get payed on commission, and they are usually willing to cut you a deal if you're going to blow a LOT of money (and they are willing to rip you off if you want to do the complete opposite).

Apple and Guitar Center will make money, and consumers will save money. Good all around

Unfortunately, they're not selling the eMac. That's BS.

Those are great little studio macs. GC needs to carry something that is under $1500... or under $1000 bucks.

As an "amateur" musician myself, I find this encouraging news!
i don't live in the US, but it is still good news.
we need more of that here in europe too, more macs everywhere, on TV, in stores, everywhere, people need to see them (in action) to buy them.

i am with k2k koos on this one i aint in the usa either nore europe but this sounds like a great idea. Push the whole Mac into areas its good at not just some bum crum shops...

I also make music but have to use pc at the moment for it but ive been working on the mac for music concpet just need newer hardware etc..

but yep this is great news keep it up apple

i'm not sure what's going to be different. they have been selling apple stuff for as long as i can remember. in fact one day i went in and started playing with protools on a g4 and the keyboard wasn't working that was hooked up to it.. so naturally i fixed it and the manager came by completly flipped out because he spent all day trying to get it to work.. good stuff. good stuff.

For those who "bleck" on GC, there's always Sweetwater, which has carried Mac stuff for quite a while.

I find them both satisfactory and it is good to have multiple sources still, with Mars gone.

i play guitar and Guitar Center has an awful service.

they didn't even know what a Vox amp was some days ago.As i was told by a friend.

I am afraid that the people who will ask for Apple could get VERY , and i mean VERY , dissinformed

Good news.. It's been a bumpy road getting OS X up to speed with the DAW's IMO. I'm now completely virtual excepet for my PCR-50 and other controllers.

I'm just confused about how they are going to manage the seemingly conflicting requirements of:

A: Meeting Apple's Minimum Advertized Price
B: Having a sale every d@mn weekend

I wish we had a guitar center in town. I probably wouldn't buy my mac there, but I would maybe buy some recording equipment.

Yeah, Guitar Center is kind of the pits. All those guys just want to get their cut of a sale. You'd like to think it's all about service but it's all about the sale in those places.

That's not true with everyone that works there. I met with Paul in the San Jose store and he lead me in the right direction. He went out of his way to help me and gave me a detailed demonstration on Cubase SX and talked to me for a while. He didn't try to sell me on anything more than what would get the job done. So, I'll go back to that store and work with him again.

guitar center is not much different than circuit city or compusa in that the macs will be a tiny part of their business, so one cannot realistically expect the sales force to be legitimate mac heads

don't expect it to be like an apple store

but it's nice that a person can buy instruments, support gear, and now macs to outfit a stage or studio and not have to resort only to PCs even though a PC is more than enough to get the job done

By "they" you mean the 17 yr old dork that works there cuz his mom said he had to have a job? Not the best way to evaluate an entire corporation.

You can't expect everyone at a store to be an expert. If they're new, it'll take some time.

There's two kinds of people. Those that do their own research and those that have people tell them what they need. Seems like you are the former.

When I run into someone that knows very little at a store, sometimes I sneak some education in so they're a little more informed. However, I have my expectations se fairly low. Once I find someone knowlegable, I always look for them.

I'm sure GuitarCenter would like to have a staff full of experts.

since the early 80s, i have taken advantage of the advertised specials at guitar center and came off ahead and i found out that you can end up getting ripped off if it's a guitar center item not in the ad

if it's not an ad item, you have to see if you can get a good deal, but it's hard since that is where the company makes it's margin of profit...they sell off the advertised gear at low prices to entice you to come in, but hope you will buy something extra *not in the ad, so they can generate a profit

both times i bought a stratocaster, i didn't buy a case since i was able to get those cheaper almost anywhere else and straps, picks, and strings can be had cheaper anywhere else also

if you want a deal from an amplifier, get one from the advertised specials and since they almost always have an ampeg, marshall, crate, and fender amp in any ad, just a little seaching will find you a deal...just one model up or down the line by the same make and you will find that if it's not in the ad, they will charge you as close to full price as they can get
