Apple Releases Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Firmware Update
![]() In addition to other updates detailed earlier, Apple today released Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station (802.11n) Firmware 7.3.2. Apple provides no details on the update, specifying only that it includes "bug fixes." The firmware update requires AirPort Utility 5.3.2 or later and weighs in at 4 MB. What would be great would be the ability to back-up the HD inside Time Capsule to another external drive via Time Machine. Not all of us want our back-ups inside TC as some of us use it as a NAS. No luck with this update.
Seems to be working fine, didn't notice anything new.

Does Time Machine still work with the Airport Base Station? There were reports that the activation of this feature might have been a mistake on Apple's part in the last update. Hopefully they aren't going back on it.
I'm considering between the Airport Base Station and the Time Capsule right now and I'm thinking of just going with the ABS to save money if TM is still supported on AirDisks. |

I think by now we can be pretty confident that the only reason Time Machine backups via an Airport Base Station were ever disabled in the first place was because of bugs. It's a common practice of Apple's to disable features, even major ones, if there were major bugs at the release deadline (see also the inability to edit appointments on the iPod Touch).

Hey, I'm a guinea pig!
Downloading the update and waiting for the AEBS to reboot takes under ten minutes. Then you lose your AirDisk. You reboot (I had to reboot twice) and then everything is the same. The TimeMachine volume seemed to mount really quickly, but the backup took about the same amount of time.
Wow. I always wanted my first time to be special. |

I downloaded this update along with the 10.5.4 update and now when I try to delete anything from the portable hard drive attached to Time Capsule via USB, I lose my wireless and have to reboot the Time Capsule to get everything working again.
I had problems with Time Capsule when I updated Leopard to 10.5.3 and now Apple appears to broken Time Capsule again. I'm disappointed because Apple hardware that I've bought in the past has never given me any grief up until now. 'It Just Works'™ Sorry Apple, it doesn't and it needs fixing.

Yup. Working for me too. Thanks!! Just rebooted.
Have you guys noticed any differences (not just TimeMachine, but anything, connectivity, drop out fixes, etc)? |

BTW, you all do know that it is extremely simple to downgrade the base software if you want to, right???

Would you be able to use automator to create an applescript that images the drives i.e. looks for changes and uploads the info?

Sadly, my external USB drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled) still doesn't show up as a mountable volume. Airport Utility sees the drive connected, but it has no mountable volumes, which is several kinds of suck.

![]() But, you can manually call up the drive for a backup by connecting to the server 10.0.1 -- Time Machine actually remembers it, and will mount it for all backups.

This update, FINALLY, allows you to use an XBox 360 Wireless Adapter with an 802.11n wifi network with WPA.
Thank you Apple, I was feeling short changed for my $100 Express. I could have bought a compatible Netgear or Linksys for $40. ...But... I'm a Mac Addict. |
