As I suspected. This means I'll be veening off my addiction to text messaging slowly.

AT&T does offer incoming text restrictions so if you don't want to ever receive texts you can do that as well.

I posted this on another forum but it should probably go here too. The prices of the iPhone are listed under the "Get iReady" section:

What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.

You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required. Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.

Sweet. As expected.

Question: Do current unlimited texting plans carry over and apply for the iPhone?

What are you confused about?

If your a current customer you will replace your current $20/month iphone plan with the new $30 iphone plan. (Or if you are a existing customer and don't have a iphone you add on the $30 data plan rate).

If your a new customer then you pick one of the plans above.

Then if you want text messages you need to add on a text messaging plan.

Whats not clear about it? It tells you the minutes, restrictions and price....what else do you need? If its not listed, its not included in the plan, i.e. text messaging.

That would imply that the O2 UK PAYG option is not coming until after the launch. Crap.

They have determined that the majority of people use between 400-1500 text per month. Therefore you are forced to bump up to the $15 plan because you can't afford to pay the charges for going over 200 text.

I believe you would need to pay 69.99 plus 39.99 for each iphone. If your a existing customer you do not need to change your plan - just your data portion.

Didn't expect them to include text messages (though that would be nice for such a device) but what they charge for them is crazy. $5 for 200?! I'd pay $5 for 500 maybe. And I'm sorry, but $20 for unlimited texting is crazy. Verizon charges $10 for unlimited. I'm having second thoughts about the whole AT&T thing. It's like you lose no matter what carrier you are on these days. It sucks.

What's not clear is whether or not these are new prices for iPhones only, new prices for new customers in general, new prices for old customers who are getting their first iPhone, and whether or not these prices super-cede existing plans if you put an iPhone on them. For example, I have the primary line on an existing Family Plan. We pay approx. $100 before my mother's work discount on the voice plans. We pay $9.99 for each additional line. We pay $29.99 for unlimited texting. Does this chart mean my line now costs more? Does this chart mean my whole Family Plan will cost more if I bring an iPhone into it, since mine is the primary line? Does our existing text message bundle apply to the iPhone?

So no, it's not clear.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Did anyone notice that the 450 minute plan went up $10? My plan would go up $35 just to keep everything the same with new 3G phone.... Additional $420 a year to upgrade.

So is this confirming a near $400 subsidy? Basically is Apple going to be selling the phone for $599/$699?
