ibook into wireless access point

I want to make my ibook into an ad-hoc wireless access point. Can i do this in OSX? Anyone know how to do it in linux?
I want it to configure people's connections automatically with DHCP, and encryption's not important.
 
system preferences -> sharing -> internet tab -> share this computer's internet connection over airport

or something with similar wording -- i'm away from OS X at the moment. but yes, it can be done, and very easily!
