Vacation shut down of external HDD

Hi all,
If I'm going on vacation for a couple of weeks, is it advisable to turn off my external hard drive as well as my iMac? I have them both plugged into a UPS and know I will turn off my Al iMac running Leopard 10.5.4, but I am not sure if it makes sense to turn off the G-Tech external backup drive as well. Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

I would always advise turning off your hardware when away for an extended period of time.
