Aluminum MacBook Pro Case Photo?

A blog entry (in Chinese) claims to have a photograph of prototype case housings of the upcoming redesigned MacBook Pro. The photo depicts what appear to be top and bottom housings of a Mac laptop sitting on a box. The housing resembles the current design of the MacBook Air but with a few notable differences. The logo in the prototype casing, for example, is no longer backlit. The screw configuration of the bottom case also does not match the current Air design, eliminating the possibility that this is just a photo of the Air's casing. There also appears to be no explanation for the additional circular and rectangular indentations in the design, but could presumably be an artifact of being prototype casing. They do claim the battery would be more rectangular than square (not pictured) and the keyboard would be the same as the MacBook Air.

Apple has been rumored to be working on new aluminum MacBook Pro designs that will adopt features of the current iMac and MacBook Air.

While the photo is consistent with rumors, we are always reluctant to take anonymously leaked photos as legitimate. More often then not, they fake fan-created images, though there have been some legitimate leaks from Chinese sources.

OoOoOo Fancy. It's been a long time since the Pro laptops have seen a cosmetic upgrade... Maybe this is it.

the bottom case doesn't appear to be "long" enough to fit the top casing, but I'm guessing that's where the battery goes.

Nothing really new here. The pic isn't very useful to get an idea of what the next rev MacBook Pro would look like. A cross between the iMac and MacBook Air is much more helpful, but we already knew that.

I predict a chrome logo. Too bad--I'll be sorry to see the lighted one go.

The bottom case does look like only half of the full bottom--only 2 feet. Maybe the whole other part (not seen) is a door that comes off to access battery, RAM, etc.

And that little rectangular opening on the right may be the release slider to make the battery door pop open.

Another possibiity, of course, is that it's real but NOT from Apple: an illegal MacBook Pro "clone," like those Chinese iPhone clones that have an Apple logo.

no blacklit logo? I'm glad I bought the penryn then. I'm serious too. This is what partly makes up what an Apple laptop is. It's one of the most distinguishing feature.

too big to be a MacBook, i believe.

and i hope they make the logo black glass, i don't care if its back-lit or not, its not like I ever see it.

If this is real, which it seems, I can't put into words how excited I am right now.

What if the 3 circles were for a screw and 2 LEDs, a cover can go on top then the Apple logo could be outlined with a white outer glow. That would be a cool idea.

Wow

The design seems a lot more sleek than the current MBP. I'd definitely sell mine for this design...only i'm really not excited about the logo not being lit. i know its small but its the little things that also set Apple apart from every other "joe"

Why put individual LED's in when it's sitting behind a full LED screen/backlight? That's how the current backlit logos work.

Love it

I would love to see the MBP looking more like a thick MBA, especially with the same keyboard. Black keys against silver is marvelous!

Exactly what I was thinking...

Duh...the backlit logo just isn't there yet...it's just a casing remember?

Just what I was about to say. Plastic cover goes over the top and will look just like any other backlit logo.
