Thats good to know that if I ever become rich and my helicopter breaks down i wont have to leave it on the street where the punks will steal my stereo.

Nice video. 🙂

What happens when your Chinook breaks down?

You use a Skycrane.

Cool helicopter. 🙂

Well, according to the wikipedia specs, the Skycrane couldn't quite lift a Chinook. It has a lift capacity of 20,000 lbs, and the Chinook weighs 23,400 lbs.

To lift a Chinook, you'd need another Chinook, with a payload capacity of 28,000 lbs.

That looks really dangerous...

I live about 20min away the KAMAN (helicopter) headquarters. Every so often when I drive by I see helicopters carrying things around (testing I guess).

And once again the Americans save the day 😛 😀
(not that its our chinook, but Boeing makes them)

May be an American helicopter but it's a British pilot who had the balls to do such a lift 😀

Or perhaps a Mil M-10. Payload: 33,000 lbs.

Or a Mil Mi26 lifting 44000lbs

the smallest one (the sky20, for 20 TONS of payload) should be taking its maiden trip next year.

I found this funny.

Now that's funny, this is a cool sight, my reaction when the video started all I thought was that there was no chance that it would be able to lift it, but wow, that thing lifted it like it was a feather.

Great video.

I did chuckle at the location - Snowdonia just sounds soooo made up!

Also, what the hell is a 'hillwalker' and how could one possible get injured 😛

Snowdonia home of Mount Snowden, the highest mountain in Wales (and one of the highest in the UK)

Hillwalker as in somebody who walks on hills or mountains.

If memory serves, the "B" model can lift 25,000 pounds which is enough for a Chinook.

FWIW, as we saw in the film on this thread, usually an aircraft is stripped down a bit before sling loading so the weight is less than normal empty weight.

The nice thing about the Skycrane, is the rear facing pilot/sling operator.
