Re: AVI to MOV conversion

Does anyone know of a program that works with 10.2 and can convert an AVI to MOV?

My question is why would you want to? AVI (MPEG-4/DIV-X) is a much better compression and now some consumer DVD players can play them.

I can't burn the file to DVD. Toast will not convert it. Toast will burn MOV files though.

None of the programs listed could convert the file. DivX Doctor said that the AVI had an ac3 audio file and it could not convert it. When I played it on quicktime pro there was no audio. Does anyone know what this means?

Use mAC3dec to convert the AC3 to a "usable" format, and use QuickTime Pro to convert the video.

Thanks for the link. It worked perfectly. I am burning the DVD as I write.

Pet peeve here. AVI, like MOV, is a wraper, not a format or a codec. Those file extentions do not relate to the quality of the video or what codec was used.
