Does anyone have a clue as to whether there will be a charge for JAGUAR?

I read some article that talked about the price not being determined yet. I was under the impression that it would be a free upgrade but I have been wrong before...once before.😀

There has been no word from Apple, and I haven't spoken to anyone who claims to know. I know there was a thread on this a few days ago, but I can't find it for the life of me. Perhaps some kind soul will be able to find the link...
 
With all the media and hype they've surrounded it with, I'll bet you its going to cost us. Not that we won't line up with our wallets in hand, dumping bills into their coffers, asking how much with big silly grins on our faces.😀

That sound like the price, I bet it will be $25 upgrade or $110 for first time users, but I'm not sure how they would do that, It usually is just 1 price.
 
Jaguar pricing will probably be around the 20 $ range. Not more because there's a limit to how much ppl are willing to pay for just an uprade. But first time user pricing will probably stay the same (129USD).

The 10.1 upgrade cost around 20 if I am no mistaken. I talked to an pple store guy named Matt, kinda a friend of mine and he had that look in his eyes that said "there is not much longer to wait". I don't know, I guess thats the look that they al have just to fool us, I just really want to try out thatRendevous thing.

Um... maybe this was only in Switz, but 10.1 here was free. Show a coupon and you could walk out with one. Me and kevinibook share that experience... (I was sooo greedy and took 2 coupons & got two upgrades. It turns out 2 hours later they ran out... 😀)

I think 10.2 will cost around $20, or if not free!
 
Depends if Apple decides to call it 10.2 or 10.5?

It's about time that Apple came out with a major OS version, this may be it.

So we should most likely expecting the 10.5 designation and the full package price, it has been a while since OS X first came out.

It would be nice to have one more major upgrade, but this really should be a hint of how Apple is going to be handling the Unix upgrade/version cycles.

But if this is the next OS version, I wonder what Jobs is keeping from the public eye.
 
It will either be free (IF you have the coupons) or $20 for people that want to oder the update cd from Apple (cost of shipping and the cd). People that are not updating from 10.1.x might have to get the full version.

It still works out better then updating to the current version of windblows. IF you build your own system there, the cheapest you can get a modern OS is about $200. Then if you want to update to hexpee (why you would is beyond me) expect to pay about $200-$300 again.

Compared to that Even if Apple charges ~$100 for Jaguar, it will be cheap.

I certainly hope not. 🙁 🙄 This practice out of Apple would hopefully go the way of the dodo, if it pulled such a stunt. I hope Apple doesn't pull that yet. OS X isn't a complete operating system yet, and as so, they shouldn't do that. Well, at least it's going to be a great update. 😀
 
i think they won't jump to 10.5, because that knocks out a whole lot of potential Xs... i mean, they've got this logo and all the marketing hype around 'X', so they don't want to find themselves having to use XI or 11 just because they went too fast through the 'x's...
 
that and all the betas have said 10.2 on them.

only thing that makes me wonder is how apple set their lawyers on people referring to jaguar as 10.2, but that could mean anything i 'spose.
 
my 10.1 upgrade CD from compusa was free, so I guess it varies from store to store. I think a few others said that their CompUSAs were handing them out for free

BTW Beej...what are you doing in Spain? I thought you were here in Australia...i just noticed that after watching your avatar...🙂

That was 'while supplies last' the compusa closest to me only had a limited number of 'free' copies to give out and that was on a 'first come' basis. I would imagine that Apple stores would have more of those, provided you bring in the coupons that came with your system, or the OS purchase.

At MicroAnvika in London, you could take in a blank cd, and they would burn the 10.1 upgrade for you there and then. Perhaps they would do the same again.

I'd be delighted if the upgrade was free (or if you just had to use a coupon). I'll pay for it if need be, but if it's free, all the better.
 
you can almost be assured that this will be a pai(n)d upgrade for everyone.

the 10.1 upgrade was free if you got a disc early on. if not then you could pay $10 (basically the price of the disc and shipping).

apple basically felt that it was too early to charge when 10.1 came out.

one of teh reasons 10.2 has been so long in coming is that apple wanted to wait until they could make some money on the upgrade. apple has been giving us free upgrades for a LONG time now, this has been very generous of them, i think its time we paid for something.

anyone who has taken a peek at jaguar knows that this is a BIG update. clearly bigger than the 10.1 update. it is more like moving from PB to 10.1. it will be well worth the funds. and apple deserves to be paid for what they have done.

if you know me you know i am very into free software, but i will say quite honestly that i think apple will deserve some money for this upgrade so lets please stop being unreasonable and greedy.

if the $ makes you 🙁 then just think of all you are getting 🙂

It would be about time for Apple to charge for an upgrade, 10.1.5 is pretty stable and fast, and can do most things I want it to do.

But if anyone feels Apple should not charge, Windows ME caused more problems than it added feactures and it is the same for XP. Microsoft even charged for the upgrade from Win98 to Win98se. My PC friends have often commented on how generious Apple is on Updates. No other OS or program I know of is this generious.

Windows ME caused more problems than it added feactures and it is the same for XP.

Now, I'm afraid I have to disagree on that one. Yes, the update 98-->Me was a stupid one, which caused more problems, but the update to XP is a BIG step for Microsoft, giving the enduser a stable operating system.

A pity it's so ugly.

I'll pay $20 for it, that's about it though. Especially since I just purchised another laptop. let's poll it!

For peecee operating systems, you couldn't give me 98, me, or hexpee. I have win2k on the game system and it is very stable (for windows), not too ugly and at least behaves (most of the time). I picked up an OEM copy of win2k when I was building the system, since I was the manufacturer of the computer. Since I did pay about $170 for it (makes full OS X 10.1 seem cheap) I refuse to spend the $300 to "upgrade" to hexpee.

IF I could get a hold of a cheap copy of hexpee I MIGHT consider giving it a shot. That has about as much chance as a snowball in hell though.
