Hello everyone -- I have a 2nd gen 1gig iPod shuffle and am unable to play some m4b files on it. The files play just fine in iTunes, but my iPod doesn't seem to know what to do with them.

I don't think the files have any DRM protection, here's one of them:
http://online.kitp.ucsb.edu/download/lhc08/thaler/snd/Thaler_LHCphysics_KITP.m4b

Any suggestions? Do I have to find a way to convert to mp3? (If so, how do I do that?)

Thanks,
Flip

To convert to MP3, open iTunes and open Preferences. Under "Advanced", select "Importing" and make sure that the MP3 encoder is selected. Then, if you are using Windows, right click on the track and select "Convert selection to MP3", if you are using a Mac then go Advanced, then select the same option. This will create a copy of the track, but as an MP3 file. Then simply delete the m4b file and sync the MP3 to your iPod.

Thanks Ivan, that did the trick for converting files. Unfortunately, my iPod shuffle still doesn't want to play this file, even as an mp3. When I press "play" it just blinks with an orange light three times (which I assume means that it can't find any files to play?). Any suggestions on how to fix this?
