iPod touch used 1st generation iphone or new ipod touch?

A guy at work is thinking about selling me his used 8gb iphone for $150 when he upgrades to the new one. Should i get this or drop the extra $$ for the ipod touch?

are there any problems with using an iphone with having it setup to an at&t accout?

these sell for like $400+ on craigslist!!

dude, that's a deal! it's so worth the contract! which is better than the 3G's anyway! i love my touch but i wouldn't pass that up!

i meant withOUT having an at&t account. I have verizon and dont want to switch back. just want to make sure that i'll be able to use this thing if im not using it as a phone.

The iphone does not work with verizon. I think it only works with tmobile (after unlocking) because they use the same technology as att.
