Apple Releases Official iPhone 2.0 Firmware

The official iPhone 2.0 Firmware is now available through iTunes 7.7. We're still waiting to hear if the build number is the same as the early version leaked yesterday.

The iPhone 2.0 Firmware provides a number of new features and also provides support for the App Store.

Not showing up yet for me

Will just keep clicking the Check for Update button, I guess....

EDIT: Ok, it took 4 minutes more, but now it's downloading! Hooray!

EDIT 2: Yesterday I downloaded the 2.0 IPSW from the found link (though ended up not installing), which was 225.0 MB. The version downloading now is supposedly 218.2 MB. Different build, perhaps?

Really? I didn't know they were making new firmware for the iPhone? How come they didn't announce this before? Why wasn't there any media coverage of such an event?

is it snappier than the old one?

Please do keep us posted on that build number. And/or what process us over-eager beavers should go through to get the correct 2.0 on our iPhone Classics -- in the event that iTunes doesn't deem us in need of the newer firmware. Thanks...

I just checked for updates and it said that 1.1.4 is the current release.

MobileMe has been up and down like a seesaw and now the Apple Store is down. You would almost think they hadn't had months to plan all of this...

I'm not seeing it. iPhone's connected (4GB model). iTunes 7.7 says that 1.1.4 is the latest version and my software's up-to-date.

I'm also trying to figure out how to get the .Mac icon in System Preferences to change to the MobileMe icon.

Someone posted that 2.0 will allow ANY 02 payg sim to work in the iPhone w/o it being unlocked.

I emailed 02 about this and they are insistent that you have to buy an 02 PAYG iPhone SIM (in stores now apparently) for it to work on PAYG w/o hacking.

Can anyone who has NOT jaibroken/unlocked their iPhone and is using a regular 02 PAYG SIM confirm this?

When it shows up in iTunes, will it be okay to get the 2.0 for 1st gen iPhone? Mine is on 1.1.4 jailbreak and unlocked.
Would very much like to get the 2.0 firmware though but I'm suspecting its too soon? I did see on here that the dev team has been able to unlock it?

It found it and I clicked Download and Install. Nothing happened, and now it says that 1.1.4 is the current version again.

Still can't get to it, the link on the Apple site gives 'itunes store temporary unavailable' via update on the ipod touch from within iTunes, it still gives 1.1.4 , current version is up to date or similar..
