MobileMe Online, Mac OS X Updater Available

After a few days of growing pains, it appears that MobileMe is now online at Me.com. The service has been up and down over the past few days while under heavy load. While Apple had initially released a MobileMe updater for Mac OS X, they had temporarily pulled the updater.

Today, the MobileMe updater appears to have returned to Software Update as version 1.1:
Quote:
The Mac OS X Update For MobileMe is recommended for users running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 and includes general system fixes that enhance your Mac for MobileMe.
The web-based service replaces .Mac and offers web-based email, calendar, addressbook, online storage as well as "push" sync services.

We've opened a MobileMe forum to handle questions and discussion about this new Apple service.

Try going into System Preferences and clicking on the .Mac icon and click on the tabs in there, this prompts a dialogue box to pop up with the information.

*goes to find the alert*

Here is the dialogue box that should pop up:

Yes, that does work. It's not in my software update, but clicking on .Mac in prefs does work and eventually brings up the updater.

Also worked for me a few hours ago and I love what I see. Been setting up the services etc... that I want and it works great. I also like the web gallery. I did notice that times were off in Calendar. So I set up the time in preferences for my mobile me account and we'll see how that goes.

Perhaps a rough start but I think IM really going to like this a lot more than dot mac. Heck I already have used more of it than I use to use on .mac!--))))

Apple will get it together with this massive change and it will be a great service for all users.

Push mail also is a really nice feature. o

Ok this method worked for me.

Going directly to software update did not work. Had to go through the .Mac icon ... strange way on Apple's part.

Ah-so...that did the trick indeed. As the forum mongers would say: read the whole thread before posting!

I've looked at software update a half dozen times since the supposed Thursday launch of Moblieme and I still haven't gotten a software update. I've messed with the systems preferences and clicked the tabs to no avail. I've signed in (when apple let me) and out of .mac with no change except now it won't recognize any sync under .mac. Doesn't say anything about .me.

I have gotten into mobileme from .mac but nothing really works because I don't have the software updates.

Now these aren't crucial issues for me. Mac is just my home computer. But I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in Apple as a corporation. They act as if everything is going fine and there are just some bugs to work out. When Gates retired, did he go to work for Apple?

Big Black Eye for Apple. I'm delaying my upgrade of my Mac. I don't think they can be trusted.

I got the "unauthorized" message yesterday night. Clicking on .Mac preferences didn't do anything (no message to update to MobileMe appeared)

This morning though, after pressing several of the tabs, I finally got the message to update to MobileMe. I'm kind of afraid to, to be honest. This was supposed to be ready on Thursday, and it's Sunday. There is a mixed bag of reports on how well it's doing at any given time.

What Apple ought to have done was release the MobileMe last week, to give them time to work out all the bugs at a time when it wouldn't haven bee under such a tremendous load of people visiting. They could have called it "beta" or "preview" or whatever they wanted.

But I think the reason they didn't do so is: maybe they were worried that glitches in MobileMe would get reported in the media, or spread through the blogosphere, and that would dampen sales of MobileMe (and possibly the iPhone 3G)?

In any case, since I do need my account synced between computers and the web version of MobileMe, I think I have to try downloading the MobileMe update and hope it doesn't screw things up too royally with my sync data. (I've already back up my contacts and iCal, and Time Machined my laptop, so if anything gets corrupted while MobileMe decides how often if at all to "push" my data, I should hopefully be able to restore it)

Here in Los Angeles, California the "me.com" updater was available for download around 9:30 am (PST).

It's not in my software update either. I have a MBP. I can't believe Apple dropped the ball on this one. They are usually very good about product launches. This one went like crap.

I was in Safari when a window popped up and said MobileMe was ready. Please run Software update.

I have installed it and had a play. It is running quite slow and push still doesnt seem to be working. Also MM calendar kept throwing up errors.

Same here. Also no MM icons anywhere else. Like the iDisk or iPhoto.

And the PUSH only works if Im operating in the me.com web interface. Nowhere else. Im a huge Apple fanboy so it takes a major screw up for me to complain but this is pretty bad. :-(

Not for me too. Neither on any other machine in the house which wasn't updated manually.

I can't even get me.com up and running. It keeps showing that black spinner.

Keep this up and they lose a 5 year member in standing.

No excuse for this at all.

Me.com is working great today, a bit slow, though. Hopefully it'll speed up in the next few days.

Going to the .Mac preferences panel and getting that dialog to make Software Update show the update worked for me. Finally!

What worked for me, well before this update came out, was to click on account details under your sys preference .mac. Hope that helps. It took me to mobile me web pages even though it was listed as not available.

I agree this has been a rough transition. Me.com doesn't work at all for me in Safari or WebKit nightly. However, it works fine in Firefox. I'll be patient and see where this goes over the next couple of weeks.
