Anyone tried this one yet? It's $20 but pretty damn impressive IMO.

Much more a real tool than the other music 'toys' which have been released so far. I actually bought this myself, haven't had that much time to use it yet but I can tell you already that there has been a lot of work put into it and it seems very cool.

I was just about to purchase this! Looks really cool and like you say, more of a real tool. I'm excited about it and hope to see more of these type of apps in the App store. I really hope Toshio Iwai makes something for the iPhone. He's the creator of Electroplankton for the DS and the amazing Tenori-On that I almost bought last month (until I had a financial emergency that wiped me out.)

Highly agree about Toshio Iwai, though that would be more of a toy or game than a tool. Would also be nice to see something from Harmonix.

$20 to look like/be an idiot...awesome app.

I'd like to see a photo of someone doing this "serious" beat mixing on their iPhone with a FAIL stamped across it, yeah, that would make me happy.

Everything about this seems dumb, I got through 2 minutes of the demo, skipped ahead, blah, seriously lame.

Sorry for being a tard about this, hope you guys who are musically inclined have fun and are productive with this app.

totally agree the application is total overkill. I can picture the fail picture right now

Well, sorry for being rude in response, but...

I actually payed 250€ in the early nineties just to get this nice little drum computer.

So basically, yes, if I had the time I could damn well use this app. And in the demo vid it looks a lot more capable, than my RY 8 was.

I'm interested, but I'm not going to drop $20 on this one. It reminds me of LSDJ and nanoloop for Game Boy, and I like that.

This app is great for $20. It's like having a little Akai MPC in your pocket. It's easy to use, sounds good, and most of all... it's fun. Much more powerful than what I expected from an iPhone audio app.

The downside right now is that the desktop companion app isn't available yet, so there's no way to upload your own samples into the BeatMaker (or download your projects to your computer), but it's coming. Never thought I'd be slicing and re-arranging samples on my phone. Very cool.

Wow. This really starts to approach the potential of the iPhone/Touch as a mobile computing platform. VERY impressive. And all this was done with a pretty short development time.

I think eventually Apple will build an iPhone that incorporates pressure sensitivity into the display; then portable music apps will have even more potential.

After watching this demo, I bought the app immediately. I'm a DJ trying to get into music production, and I think this is a great beginner app for me to slowly get the hang of the production world.

My one complaint (or maybe just confusion) is you can only use one set of pads in the sequencer at a time. Is there a way to use different pad sets in different patterns within the same track?

I bought the app yesterday - it really is fantastic. Great quality samples are included. The sample editor/creator is really powerful.

I don't think there is, but there should be a 'pad bank' feature to have multiple banks loaded at once and a button to switch between them.

As to the price comments, if you think it's too expensive then something like this is not for you. It's not a toy/game, it's a music tool. This is easily worth more than twice what some game costs, in the hands of someone who has ability to actually do something with it.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm loving this app and it does seem like a virtual MPC 2000 (which I also own.)

For DJs, electronic musicians who like to experiment (myself included) and even acoustic musicians that want to create their own backing beats for coffeehouse open mic nights, this is a great app and a definite bargain at 20 bucks. If you are not any of the above and have no interest in making beats/ editing audio, then of course you are not going to be interested in this (but no need to call people idiots for using it, yeah I'm talking to you Preclaro_tipo.)

With the ability (now available) to load up your own samples, this thing is pretty powerful. I have a library of 1 TB of sounds to pick and choose from (I used to be an audio editor for Avid/Digidesign and M-Audio) but never had anything smaller than a laptop I could load, mix and play them in... until now!

Cool stuff. Now if Ableton would make an iPhone version of Live...

That's my ultimate iPhone fantasy. Unfortunately, if it ever comes it won't be $20.

I'm having trouble opening my own files in BeatMaker. My phone is able to connect to my shared folder on my computer, and it appears that I'm uploading the files to my phone, but when I try to load the files into a project they're not there.

Anyone having any luck?

This application is staggeringly great and setting aside all of its functionality is a wonderful example of the type of fit and finish that developers should be striving to put into their iPhone applications. Oh, and you naysayers: ridiculous comments.
