Yup. Jailbroke it yesterday with Pwnage, and it was working fine.

I made a phone call around 2am, and halfway through the call the phone freaked out, the call dropped, and all of a sudden it said "This phone cannot make or receive calls" with a no service message on the top left.

I tried restoring original firmware, and I got the 1604 error. I tried the custom firmware, same error. Tried on both a PC and a MAC, i've put it into recovery mode successfully and DFU, and I've also tried reinstalling firmware without the SIM card in, but nothing has happened.

I don't know what to do, and I'm running out of ideas. I can't afford a new phone either...

Also, i'm aware there's another thread about this, but he's in a different situation than I am. He has the old iPhone and he's trying to upgrade the firmware and unlock, whereas I have the new iPhone...

Pwnage does not touch the "phone" part of the 3G as it doesn't unlock it.

Your problem may be a faulty 3G iPhone!

Does it still have the pwnage logo or the Apple logo when it boots?

If you can get the Apple logo back you can get Apple to swap it over - obviously if they saw the pineapple logo they would not replace it.

Having said that 1604 can be down to many different reasons and I suggest you try different USB ports on your PCs.

I myself had a similar issue where I could not restore on 2 PCs! as they both gave that error and when I tried it on my mac it was fine...

So you could simply be having an iTunes "strop" as iTunes does seem to have mood swings and sometimes restore and sometimes not. IT is a known issue with iTunes.

Just keep trying!

It still ahs the pineapple logo, that's the thing! :(

Ive already tried it on two different PC's both front and back USB ports, and my Mac. I"ve tried reinstalling it to the custom firmware, as well as 2.0 firmware, AND a previous version.

Nothing is working.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if you were smart enough, you would have turned off the custom graphics before you pwned your iPhone... it's a sure sign that it's jailbroken if you try to return it if it's messed up.

Well I would have, had I known there were custom graphics. I'm not computer illiterate at all, and I know my way around both a mac and a pc, but this is my first iPhone, so excuse me for not being an expert.

yes, but if you do it through windows you have no choice. isnt there a way to change the logo?

Your so so brave unlocking your 3GIphone.

Your so so brave unlocking your 3GIphone.
Why risk it for a few apps etc that you cant be botherd to pay for?
You waited, you got the phone you wanted then you f**k it up.
Keep jailbreaking and Apple will carry on catching you all out, in the end there will be enough bricked Iphones to build a new Apple building.
I dont love Apple they are as bad as Microsoft, but they do make cool hardware, give it more time and the apps will be Brilliant (god they have only just been out over a week).

Excuse me? Do you know me? Do you know why I wanted to jailbreak my phone?

No you don't.

I've paid for half of the applications I have on my phone from the app store, the rest of the were free in the app store.

I wanted to jailbreak it for the skinning capabilities as well as the NES emulator which is not even available in the itunes store.

Go troll somewhere else.

Brilliant? With so many limitations? They've been out a week, but the SDK and 2.0 have been in the works for a long time. And I'm sure developer relations has gotten an earful from lots of unhappy developers about the way some things work on the phone.

Jailbreaking gives you a bit more freedom.

hackthatifone.com

Seems you may be able to Pwn at the DFU level. However, the phone freaking out is not related as the bootloader goes untouched.

Yeah, but what would be the issue with me not being able to restore the regular firmware?

That seems wierd that you cannot restore it. try douing dfu mode again. make sure it is plugged into the computer while you hold the buttons down. try pwning it with the windows method. i think there is a link somewhere around here. i cannot belive it is bricked. i belive pwning doesnt actually touch the phone just the firmware. so you just have faulty firmware. keep trying dude. restart the computers, reinstall itunes/quicktime. youll get it eventually.

since there is still a pineapple logo then the custom firmware is still on. so the firmware is probably faulty. just keep trying a whole bunch of different combos.

that is the one quirk i had with custom logos. if something goes wrong, your screwed.

Emulators don't work on the 3G iPhone and neither do any skinning apps because those things are incompatible with the 2.0 update... so you did all of that for nothing... But, since you're a smart guy, you already read about all of that before you tried it, yes?

Also, make sure you are not restoring the 3G iPhone with the Original iPhone firmware. You MUST use the specific 3G firmware. I believe the 3G firmware starts with 1,2 instead of the usual 1,1 that the original iPhones had.

Have fun!

Actually, NES does work with the 2.0 update considering I was running it thanks to cydia yesterday on my phone. And I'm aware skinning isn't available yet, because summerboard and other various theme apps aren't available yet, but you can still go in through ssh and manually change the icons. So I actually didn't do it all for nothing, other than the fact that it crapped out.

And yes, since I am a smart girl, I did read all of that prior to installing. And I am using the specific 3G firmware "iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw".

If you're going to be a smart-ass, at least know what you're talking about before trying to talk down to other people.

Hey, hey. I'm sorry I called you "guy". Also, I don't have my iPhone yet (still got an iPod touch) and the last I knew, emulators weren't working yet and I knew that you can manually change graphics, but I figured you meant SummerBoard. Also, Thank you for clarifying that you're using the correct firmware.

Have a good day.

(I personally wouldn't've risked breaking my 3G iPhone to change icons or run old Nintendo games, but that's just me... just doesn't seem worth the price you paid).

Well if I thought I was going to break it, I wouldn't have done it, duh. But it's said and done, and now I'm trying to remedy it.

Luckily, a friend of mine is a mac genius and he's helping me when he gets out of work, so if that goes well I'll post the results here.

LOL! Why are you even on this part of the forums if you disagree with iPhone Hacks. It's like you're going out of your way to be hostile. Just stay in the regular iPhone section.

I was kind of wondering that myself. Guy tries something new and different, the phone goes ballistic, everyone takes that as their cue to line up and kick him in the balls. Way to go, what men you are.

1. Ignore the schaudenfraude
2. Number one reason for this is failure to enter true DFU mode. Make sure you press both home and sleep until the screen goes black then BEFORE the apple logo appears release sleep and keep pressing home till iTunes claims it sees a phone in recovery mode but your phone screen is BLANK.
3. It's tricky. Try a few times.
4. Restore using a stock firmware and let iTunes download it from Apple.
5. Send me a thank you note :)

I've done this about 10 times. On a Mac, AND a PC. I know I'm in the proper DFU mode each time also.

Still, 1604 error.
