How much faster is wall charger than USB?

There's really no difference, it's all personal perception. The wall charger puts out exactly 500ma, same as a powered USB port. I just tested it with a multimeter earlier today. It's going to charge just as fast on the wall outlet as it will on your USB port.

Actually, the wall charger charges twice as fast. There was an app for jailbroken iPhones called "Battery", which gave you an exact reading of how much battery life was left, and if it was charging, how many mas it was getting. I got 500ma through USB on my computer and 1000ma through the power adapter, and it definitely charged a lot faster through the power adapter. I didn't test it on the iPhone 3G since there's no app like that available, but it definitely charges faster through the wall adapter.
I actually do see a difference but it is only like 10-15 minutes quicker which isn't that big a deal for me

also note that there are two generations of wall chargers: Firewire & USB
i have never tested this but my general perception is that the wall-USB is the same as mac-USB, but that the wall-FW is faster than both of them

Yea, I second that. I charge my iPhone with an old Firewire iPod charger and it's definitely faster than via USB on my Mac.
On the original iphone I never used the USB to charge. It was painfully slow initially. So I always used the wall charger.
I always use USB now because USB is much faster than it used to be on the original iPhone when it first came out.
I think I got like 80% charge in like an hour early. Those numbers are a bit sketchy, but compared to it taking 8 hours to charge in the old days, it is much faster.

Is your iPhone 2G? The iPhone 3G is not compatible with the older firewire iPod/iPhone 2G charger. FYI, the new iPhone 3G wall charger is using USB port so charging via the new charger and USB from mac/pc will draw the same power and will have the same charging time.
ahh negative.
although both iphone ship with USB-wall chargers and will only sync with your computer over USB, they will both stil charge off an old iPod FW wall-charger.

The new 3G iPhone doesn't charge with the old FireWire iPod charger.
It also doesn't work with a large number of iPod accessories which use the 12V FW connections to charge.
Maybe it's placebo, but I always think the charge on my battery lasts longer after a 'wall charge' than a usb one.
