Hi

Does anyone know if the NOKIA 9210 Communicator is compatible with a Mac and if so to what extent? OS X?

Today I’m working with a PC (which I don’t like) and a Palm (which I don’t particularly like either). I used to be on a Mac (and still is privately) and a Psion. I have just convinced my boss to let me do my work on a TiBook and I would like to toss the Palm. My colleagues are very content with their Communicators and it seems to be a good PDA/Phone-sort-of-thing.

Will I be able to use one with my coming Mac? Calendar, mail, address book etc etc?

nope

Not likely. It seems that the Nokia's are compatible with the Windows world. You could always run Virtual PC. It is worth noting however that I turned the infrared feature on my 8290 once, and it showed up as a zone in appletalk. Maybe someone makes software out there that lets you do stuff with your communicator on your Mac.

I did a little check on the nokia web site, and came up with this:

Logos and picture SMS can be sent to almost every Nokia phone but only these phones can be connected to the Mac OS computer:

- via infrared (IrDA):
Nokia 7110, 7190, 5210, 6210, 6250, 6310, 6310i, 6510, 8210, 8250, 8290, 8310, 8390, 8810, 8850, 8890

- via serial port or USB connection:
Nokia 7110, 7190, 6210, 6250, 6310, 6310i

Dang! Your company gives you TiBooks and Nokia Communicators? Talk about corporate perks 🙂
