iPod->iBook G3 Connection Problems

ok, sometimes when connecting my new ipod to my ibook, it doesnt seem to pop up in the finder. The only way to get it to connect seems to be to reboot the iBook. The iPod says 'do not disconnect', but there's no way to eject it!!
