1st Gen IPhone ATT Removed Sim How Can I Still Use It?

Hi

When I bought my 3G phone ATT removed my sim from my first generation iPhone.... so when I turned it out it wants me to put in a sim and if I slide the bar then it takes me to the screen where you can make a emergency call.....

How can I get this phone up and going again and use it for a ipod to watch movies and listen to music and get free apps off from itunes?
