Mu iMac will not detect my TV as a monitor

I bought a video adapter for my iMac + a video cable.Then I plugged it into the Mac and TV. This doesn´t work. My iMac will not detect the TV as a monotor and therefore Nothing shows on my TV. Is there anyone that can help me with this problem.

Umm ... i maybe missing something, so i'm gonna check the apple site ... but where exactly are you plugging this in?

EDIT: oh ya ... there we go i found it ... hold on ... i'll see what i can find

Although it is plug and play most of time for mac stuff ... plug it in ... and then restart .. .see if that works
