Hey guys, my girlfriend happened to be the first person to respond to a craigslist ad for a free computer. It's an old, slot-loading iMac from 2000 with 350 MHz PPC, 320 Mb RAM & 7 GB HDD. This is only slightly better than the first PC I ever owned, heh.

But anyway, it has Mac OS 9.1 on it right now, and I have next to zero experience dealing with it (and not a lot of interest in learning it). I'd much rather install a version of OS X, but I can't quite nail down which version I should use. I want to put at least Jaguar on it, or if it can handle it, Panther. She'll just be using this for Microsoft Office stuff, and probably e-mail/web surfing as soon as we get it hooked up to the net. So how well do these old iMac's handle Jaguar, Panther, etc..?

i have one of these macs, i just got it recently. its only slightly better at 500mhz. i have tiger running on it, and it has 256MB ram, i also replaced the original 10gb hd with a 40gb. dont underestimate it, its a pretty good machine
