Philips Streamium for Mac Coming?
Streamium is a consumer electroic product line from Philips which promises to bridge your PC movies, music and photos with rest of your house.
Like the previously mentioned HomePod, these devices work over WiFi and allow you to utilize your PC's multimedia content. Philips had previously announced support for Rendezvous in such devices, hinting that it would provide seemless integration with your Mac. Phil Schiller also hinted at the coming of these devices in late 2002. According to their FAQ, the 'PC-Link' enabling software to bridge the PC to the components does install on Mac OS 10 (though the download link is not presently available.) |

iBox Related???
Could this rumor be connected to the iBox rumor? If it is, perhaps Streamium will be compatible with or even part of the iBox (if it is in fact released).

What with the Sony PSP/PVR box, this and the HomePod it looks like a new market is opening - time for Apple to join it with the iBox. Please ....

Slimp3 and Squeezebox - better!
www.slimdevices.com has a couple of great products that have been out for a while now. One is wired, one is 802.11 wireless with optical outputs. I've used them and they're fantastic!

This is what MacWorld Paris 2002 was about... wasn't it?
During the Keynote, Philip's CEO, Gerard Kleisterlee (I think), talked about such a product. I remember him... not a gr8 speaker (understatemant).

This is a couple of dodgy companies trying to start a market for products that should be classed as 'domestic clutter'
Do we need this? No. Drag your ipod to another room and plug it into the stereo. You wanna server system in your house?! Yeah, you can link it to your Tablet PC.....

If you take a look at the FAQ, you'll see it is based on (at least) UPnP. I don't know if RendezVous is supported, but it's perfectly possible to implement a UPnP compatible (audio/video) server to use on your Windows, Linux or Mac machine. Some media-bridge vendors are using the MS-SDK for UPnP, won't work on the Mac. Some are using the Intel SDK, but only deliver an app. for Windows. If Philips implements the UPnP server by an Java application, it should work on PC, Mac, Linux, whatever. Ok, still for better integration with Mac, RendezVous might be nice.

and most Cable modem connections don't break the 1 MBps So i think the speed of transfer would be fast enough for most audio Although i question this solution for Video, particularly HD any thoughts?
