Website Gallery

I'm currently having my website sorted and was wondering on what to have done for the gallery.

I want the gallery within the site, not linking to Zen or anything.

I've seen MooTools, Lightbox etc, but wondered if anyone knows of any others that are good.

I DO NOT want flash, as i can't stand it and it won't work on my iPhone, so can't show clients previous work etc.

I'm after the smartest, most professional looking gallery i can get.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Ever been to a site dedicated to a fancy photographer, model, or art gallery? What's almost universally common to those elegant and very well designed website galleries is Flash, unfortunately. The so called "professional" look.

Actually even the Flash software uses actionScript which means JavaScript functions are called to extend the presentation, i.e. zoom images, create dynamic links, etc. But I've always felt the best galleries are Flash, unfortunately as you noted Safari in iPhone 3G doesn't support Flash.

So aside from Flash, the two frameworks you mentioned are the most common "best" suggestions, as the code is more reliable than most others, can work with other frameworks, and well supported and documented.

Beyond those you mentioned here are some other non-flash solutions, they vary by platform but impressed me with the same visual style commonly found in straight-up Flash:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the links.

I know what you mean about Flash. It can look good, if done properly, but i find it too resource hungry for my liking and the iPhone incompatibility is the main problem.

I carried on browsing the internet yesterday and came across 'FancyZoom 1.1'. It looks like the one Apple use for their images, so i'll see what that looks like on my site and go from there.

Thanks again for your input.

Mark
