iTunes Music Store - Billboard Charts

Apple's iTunes Music Store now lets you browse by Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

The new feature appeared on the front page of the iTunes Music Store, and provides yearly charts back to 1946. There are some gaps in the listings where (presumably) the song is not yet offered through the iTunes Music Store.

Apple recently introduced collections of songs called iTunes Essentials which offer special compilations by theme.

HA! Noticed the charts before the post! Anyways, yeah, I thought those looked new, I like 'em. Now we just need to fill in the holes in the charts . . .

Thank God!

All I got to say is....IT'S ABOUT TIME! That's the only feature I could think of that Napster had one up on the store with. Now I can reminesce (and remember) about all those chart toppers I've forgotten about from the 80s!

Too many.

I think once Paul McCartney gets his rights back from Michael Jackson he'll consider it, but until then, I doubt they will join.

Dave Matthews needs in as well.

Side note: Metallica has joined some dot coms now, soon they should be up as well (mwahahahahahaha!!!)

Check Metallica's website for more info, my room mate was showing that info to me.

But, I'd say those are the big 3 that need to join the online stores, thoughts?

Another high-profile artist not on iTMS yet is Metallica.

Right now I searched for them and found an unofficial biography. Means nothing, right? Guess what, Metallica has an artist page on iTMS now (lacking any music). I bet this is an announcement at the keynote. I wouldn't doubt seeing other high-profile additions to the store today.

There is also a new "Pre-Releases" section, above "Just Added". At least, I assume this to be new - I can't remember seeing it before. Am I right?

I love RadioHead and have all their Full Albums. Half the enjoyment is the creativity they pursue when deciding how to release the album. Amnesiac as a library book was the coolest thing ever. I think they are one of the bands that create Albums, not a bunch of songs, and would like their music to stay together. The listener needs to experience the whole compilation. This is just my guess from reading up on them and listening to them over the years, but I think it's along the right lines...

Top 100

Anyone else notice that #58 is missing from the iTunes Top 100? Must be one of the songs that suddenly disappeared from the store [http://www.appleturns.com/scene/?id=3944].

Well it's about time!

I've been hosting my 2500+ music hit list (which has been downloaded over 870 times) for a month now.

It's such a pain in the butt, hunting and pecking amongst 30 second samples, trying to weed out the album filler.

It gets too expensive to download entire albums, figure for a collection (as modest) as mine of 5000 songs and only 2500 are worth a darn. That's a lot of money wasted.

Maybe when my hit music list got Slash-doted the other day it forced Apple to act?

Who knows, I'm very happy and look forward to utilizing these lists.

PS. Now if by option clicking I can give a song a particular grouping from a self created list instead of doing a "Get info" and typing, I'll be in heaven.

I buy music, listen to the song and like to give it a stress rating immediately so it winds up in my particular playlist "radio stations" automatically.

So far I've been using the star's, which limits me to only 5 options. With grouping I can take that even further.

But the "Get info" route is a hassle.

Well they must of pulled it, waiting for keynote or something. They have a dead link, perhaps that was it.

Not on the front of the iTunes-iPod page any more.

Wink Decca and Deutsche Grammaphon

I could not care less about Billboard's top 100.

However, I am very happy to see that Decca and Deutsche Grammaphon are finally putting out albums on iTMS.

Also iTMS has finally linked together all the movements of one piece, so you can one-click order an entire symphony.

Has anyone noticed that while the billboard hits are there, they cannot be sorted by rank ? Aint'it incredible? There is no column for rank!

Here's a rumor for you all, folks: Of course, Apple and the perfection it always tries to achieve wouldn't have let that through. Instead, "rank" is a new column that the current version of iTunes is not programmed to display. So we will see a new version of iTunes today.

I thought the track number was the rank... it makes sense as the things skip

I was excited when I saw the Billboard Top 100 banner on the iTMS this morning, but very disappointed with the implementation. It's really nothing more than a reshuffling of already existing iTMS content, much like the "iTunes Essentials" that started a couple weeks ago. But not even that good because as previously mentioned, the songs aren't listed in rank order, nor can you buy these as "albums."

What would be a real coup is if iTMS could pair up with Billboard (or better, Rhino) to offer the actual albums in the Top Hits series, or Rhino's "Have a Nice Day" Series. I've pretty much fleshed out my music collection to where there are just a few one-hit-wonder type holes (admittedly plugged for now with illicit MP3s) that I would like to purchase legitimately. Getting the rights to the full versions of collections like these would make the iTMS the place to buy hard to find singles!!

They did a nice job with the Doo Wop Collections, I'd really like to see more of this kind of thing with other styles of music!

Smile I love the new Billboards

Having the ability to check and buy top 100 songs from a particular year is a great idea. It was fascinating to go back to my birth year (1967) or look at a couple of special years I remember as a child (1976/77) is wonderful.

Well, back to iTunes.

The track number IS the rank. So yeah, never fear, YOU CAN SORT THE BILLBOARD HITS BY RANK! Now back to waiting for the webcast of the expo to begin!

I get the IPod mini point but...

OK its cute its small and its cheeper. It fits on your arm. I see all sorts of people buying expensive cell phones for the compact nature of the device. So I have an IPod for jogging and one for the rest of my life (or my wife has one for jogging and I have one for my less active life).

Question is if you have two ipods, how do you work with them in one itunes?

Also was I the only one to see the new 1984 add has been Spielberged? No walkie talkies but the runner now has an IPod (version 3)? Who says it isn't good for jogging.

I think the charts are a great idea. SJ said they were going to do billboards by genre as well, already spent 20 bucks on the charts today, no doubt when they release by genre more debt will loom.....
