Disk Image backup risk

Hello All,

Im trying to find ways to better backup my files. I already use Time Machine, Backup, as well as a physically copying my home folder to another drive. I would like to improve the last one. One way I found was to create a compressed disk image from a folder using Disk Utility, I like it since I can backup more data w/o buying a new hard drive. What are risks involved with backing up files using this method? Has anyone ever tried it?

The only real risk is if for some reason you can't open or uncompress the disk image.

I don't believe disk utility will do incremental backups, so every time you want to backup your home folder you will need to run disk utility to create a whole new disk image, which is time consuming and takes up more space unless you delete the first image.

Better to use SuperDuper to make incremental backups of your home folder whenever you want, straight onto your external, or into a disk image you previously created with disk utility.
